What is reiki?

"Reiki," a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force Energy," is an ancient Oriental healing art that uses a non-invasive touch to promote balance and healing within the body, as well as in the mind and spirit. It is a very gentle, yet powerful energy, suitable for individuals of any age or state of health.

Reiki therapy has been found beneficial for:

  • Pain Management
  • Reduction of Stress and Anxiety
  • Promoting faster healing of wounds and fractures
  • Reducing complications of surgery and promoting quicker recovery
  • Improving immune function
  • Mood stabilization
  • Overall balancing of energies
  • General Health and Wellness issues

Why does reiki work?

Reiki works because it addresses not only the physical symptoms of a client's condition, but more importantly the whole range of attitudes and behaviors surrounding the condition. It also recognizes and deals with cycles of stress, anxiety, physical tension, symptoms and disease.

Client care can be greatly enhanced by incorporating complementary therapies of biofield medicine, such as Reiki, into behavioral approaches, such as biofeedback, support groups and psychotherapy, as well as into the traditional medical approaches of drug and physical therapy.

Reiki therapy works by encouraging clients to participate more fully in their treatment plans, by decreasing stress and pain levels, by improving overall mental/emotional states, and often results in a decreased need for pain medication.

Clients are given tools to use on their own throughout the day, thus empowering them to become more independent, enhancing not only their quality of life, but also that of their families and/or caretakers.

Reiki is a catalyst for self healing and offers the possibility of well-being on all levels: spiritual, mental/emotional and physical.

Margaret is a Registered Reiki Master/Teacher through the International Association of Reiki Professionals. She graduated with Highest Honors from Clayton College of Natural Health as a Doctor of Natural Health and is certified (CNHP) by the National Association of Certified Natural Health Professionals. Her holistic training includes Nutrition, Herbology, the Chakra system, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Iridology, Tai Chi, Homeopathy, Touch for Health Kinesiology and more, with a wellness philosophy that emphasizes understanding the links between our bodies, minds and spirits. Margaret is an Ordained Minister in the Universal Brotherhood Movement, Inc. and has served as a Stephen Minister in a hospital setting.

Her interest in natural health therapies began in 1993 after twenty years of struggling with her daughter’s illnesses only to find that the allopathic medicine therapies were causing more problems than the underlying illnesses themselves. This search for a better, less toxic way led her first to energy medicine, with Reiki and Kinesiology. In 1998 she left the corporate world to open Carolina Reiki Institute, Inc. for the purpose of extending to others the benefits of receiving Reiki treatments as well as to train individuals and practitioners in treating others. Then in 2000 she returned to school to pursue a wider range of knowledge, receiving her Doctorate in natural health in 2003.

Margaret’s commitment is to promoting wellness by educating individuals and empowering them to participate fully in their own healing processes and the choices they make.
